How is your t-shirt printed using digital printing?

There are two methods used to print a digital design on a t-shirt: digital transfer and digital transfer overlay . The specific print technique used is determined by the color of the t-shirt that's selected.

If you select a white t-shirt, the print technique that's used is called digital transfer . If you select a t-shirt that's any color other than white, the print technique that's used is called digital transfer overlay .

Digital Transfer:

With the help of a color laser printer, the design is applied to a special type of transfer material. The transfer material is pressed onto the t-shirt under high temperature. There is no white color used in this print technique. The color of the t-shirt will show through anywhere the design contains white or transparent areas.

Digital Transfer Overlay:

This process uses a special type of material that the design is printed on before being heat transferred onto the t-shirt. For this print technique, our system doesn't recognize transparencies . Therefore, any area of your design that you've set to be transparent will be changed to white . We can remove the white background only if your design meets the following requirements:

  • The design must be a shape that can be cut around. For example, it has to be a shape that someone could cut out with scissors. If your design contained an image of a star, the edges of the star would have to be smooth and have a distinct edge. They cannot be little dots or a gradation because this would be impossible to be cut on our plotters.
  • The smallest part must be at least .12 inches in size. If there are a lot of small parts and complex areas in your design, we won't be able to cut around your design.

How is your t-shirt printed using plot printing (Flex / Flock)?

A vector design with no more than 3 colors is a necessary printing format for the plot print. Vector designs consist of curves. A design will be mechanically cut out of the plot material with the plotting knife. Very fine design parts considerably increase the amount of effort. Every printing color is cut out of its own plot material.

After the design has been extracted from the material and the excess material has been removed, only the design will remain.

Finally, the design will be positioned and thermally transferred onto the t-shirt. The plastic backing will be removed and the t-shirt is complete.
